LOCAL EDUCATION

Croydon has more schools than most other London boroughs.
There are 95 primary schools,
21 secondary schools and two further education establishments.


The town benefits from some of the top independent and state schools with outstanding academic records. Whitgift, founded in 1596 by John Whitgift, then Archbishop of Canterbury and Archbishop Tenison’s, founded in 1714 by Thomas Tenison along with a host of other high achieving schools around the borough. Further and higher education is well catered for at John Ruskin College and Croydon College with degree courses in a range of subjects as diverse as theatre to law.


The BRIT School is the country’s only state school for Performing Arts and Technology.
Serving 14 to 19 year-olds, the BRIT is famous for producing stars from Katie Melua to The Kooks and Leona Lewis.
