Sustainability and environment information about the Ruskin Square development
There can no longer be any doubt about human impact on the environment. Our intention for Ruskin Square is simply to reduce energy consumption within the development as much as possible; both during construction and when in use.
Key to Ruskin Square’s sustainability is its location. As well as utilising waste ground, it has superb public transport links – and is only a five-minute walk from central Croydon.
In terms of layout, we have arranged the buildings to make best use of the arc of the sun reducing the need for artificial heat and light. The buildings also shelter the Square from wind and noise.
Across Ruskin Square, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants provide 80% of the buildings’ heat, with 30% fewer emissions. Insulated façades on the buildings retain heat, whilst external louvres soften the impact of the sun. Fresh air supply and heat recovery units, coupled with pumps, circulate heat and air without fans. And the office lighting system adjusts to the daylight for maximising efficiency.
After completion an onsite management company will be charged with maximising waste recycling.
